Guidewire Configuration System

Overview

Guidewire Configuration Management System is a code-less, metadata driven tool that enables our customers to rapidly and easily implement, adapt, maintain and upgrade the Guidewire Insurance Platform. This project is an early initiative to explore the user experience for non-software background configurer, and to focus on the system integration use case.

Problem & Goal

Currently it is difficult for customers to wire up external system to Guirdwire InsuranceSuite Platform. It can involve significant amount of hand coding and proportion (~50%) of implementation costs, which also make maintaining and upgrading the system less efficient.

The goal of this project is to reduce the total cost of ownership, to increase efficiency of maintaining the platform, and to enable non-developer users to configure integrations without the necessity of using programming language by moving the integration configuration to a code-less tool.

Reflection

It was an intensive working cycle to go thorough each phase including discovering problems, defining use cases, iterating designs in 6 weeks. The design was presented in quarterly demo and was favored by Chief Product Officer in the Development team. After that, this project was also demonstrated at Guidewire Connections 2016, a customer conference and received high recognition. 

Overall, this project established the vision of unified configuration user experience and facilitated further research and development.
